Documentary or mokumentary? That was the question everyone wanted answered when news first emerged about Casey Affleck's controversial directorial debut, I'm Still Here.
Charting Joaquin Phoenix's attempts to reinvent himself as a rap star, the film was considered by many to be a fake – and they were right.
Casey has confirmed that the actor's bizarre behaviour last year – including growing a scruffy beard, taking part in an awkward David Letterman interview, and impromptu rap performances – was all for show.
"It’s a terrific performance, it’s the performance of his career," confirmed Ben Affleck's younger brother, who is great friends with Joaquin, as well as being married to his sister Summer Phoenix.
I never intended to trick anybody," he added. "The idea of a 'hoax' never entered my mind."
I'm Still Here, which was released last week, received critical acclaim at the Venice and Toronto film festivals.
