Andrew Lloyd Webber 'interested' in Abbey Road

Friday February 19, 2010

Music mogul Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber has said he is "very interested" in buying the Abbey Road studios in order to preserve its status as the home of British music.

The composer, who has an estimated fortune of £750million, is one of many celebs who are keen to save the building which has been put on the market by troubled record group, EMI.

Sir Paul McCartney is "desperate" for it to remain a working recording studio, DJ Chris Evans has called for the studios to be preserved, while The National Trust has also expressed interest in buying it.

Lord Lloyd-Webber's spokesman adds: "He thinks it is vital that the studios are saved for the future of the music industry in the UK.

"Andrew has probably brought more musicians to record there than anyone else, because it has the capacity to record large orchestral productions."
