Carey Mulligan's Bafta win 'unbelievable' says aunt

Monday February 22, 2010

After her incredible success at the Bafta awards, Carey Mulligan's family could not be prouder of the talented British star.

The 24-year-old was named best actress at the ceremony for her role in An Education.

And her happy relatives have been speaking out in praise of the newly crowned winner.

Talking to BBC Wales, Carey's aunt, Heulwen Booth, described the moment her niece's name was read out as "unbelievable".

"She's had quite a few parts over the last five years and she's had remarkable write-ups for every part she has been in."

"But even as a family, I don't think even her mother and father had dreamed of her winning last night," she said.

"To come out on top, I don't think it's sunk in with anybody so far."

Mrs Booth, who lives in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, also recalled the first time she and her husband saw Carey on the big screen – starring with Keira Knightley in 2005's Pride and Prejudice.

"We just kept looking at each other and saying, 'that's actually Carey'," she said.

"We're so proud of her and that she's done so well in such a short period of time."
