Mel Gibson dropped from The Hangover sequel

Friday October 22, 2010

Mel Gibson's cameo role in The Hangover 2 has been scrapped after objections from the film's cast and crew.

Despite approval from the studio, the actor, 54, will no longer make an appearance as a tattoo artist in the comedy sequel, director Todd Phillips has confirmed.

"I thought Mel would be great in the movie," he said this week.

"But I realise film making is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew."

The decision comes after a storm of bad publicity around Mel's private life.

Police are currently investigating him on suspicion of domestic abuse against ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of his one-year-old daughter Lucia.

Meanwhile, Oksana is being investigated over allegations she tried to extort money from the actor.

The original Hangover film, about a stag party that goes astray in Las Vegas, was a global success that took $467 (£297m).

The sequel, due for release next year, will reunite stars Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha.
