An exhausting few months has taken its toll on Wyclef Jean.
The ex-Fugee was admitted to hospital due to stress and fatigue but is now recuperating at home and should be back to work in about a week, says his publicist.
His collapse came after a demanding schedule which included recording a new album and running a bid for the presidency of Haiti.
The candidate claimed that he received death threats by those wanting him to withdraw from the presidential race.
Although told by Haiti’s electoral council that he isn't eligible to become president, the 37-year-old singer still runs the Yéele Foundation – a charity that assits Haitians through education, health, and community services.
"Wyclef is currently suffering the effects of lack of sleep and stress, global travel, even the endless public eye and has asked that his fans and supporters bear with him for the next several days as he regains his physical health and stamina,” said a statement from his family.
“Then he will be back out in front of the crusade to rebuild Haiti”
