Attempted break-in at Cheryl Cole's £3.5m mansion

Friday February 19, 2010

Thieves have reportedly tried to break into the Surrey mansion of Cheryl and Ashley Cole.

It is believed that the burglars may have been attempting to steal the Girls Aloud beauty's £160,000 wedding ring, in the early hours of Friday morning,

Cheryl was pictured on Thursday heading to Los Angeles without the square-cut diamond.

It is thought she had removed it following further allegations of her footballer husband's alleged infidelity.

Ashley was at home nursing an ankle injury at the time of the break-in.

When he was woken by a noise, the Chelsea player called the police, saying: "Please come quick, someone's trying to break in," according to the Sun newspaper.

Officers arrived minutes later but the burglars had fled.

A Surrey Police spokesman made this statement: "We can confirm that officers were called to a house in Surrey at around 4.30am yesterday morning following reports of an attempted break in.

"Investigations are ongoing."
