Generous U2 pledge £8.3 million of tour money to charity

Tuesday March 31, 2009

Philanthropic Irish supergroup U2 are planning to donate up to £8.3 million of the proceeds from their upcoming world tour to charity.
The sum will be generated from the auctioning of VIP, stage-side tickets for some of the 37 worldwide dates Bono and the band mates are due to play.
They're embarking on a marathon gig schedule this summer, starting off in Barcelona on June 30. From there they'll tour 14 cities across Europe, including Milan, Paris, Nice, Berlin, Amsterdam, Dublin, Gothenburg and London, before heading to the US and Canada in September.
Proceeds from the sales of the special front row seats will go to the organisation Global Fund, which helps in the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Africa. Bids, which can be placed through Ticketmaster, start at £95.
